Owensboro’s very own Fresh By Genes Food Truck was the winner of the first annual Evansville Food Truck Festival last weekend.
Fresh by Genes won both big awards, the Peoples Choice Award and 1st Place Overall.
Fresh by Genes is owned by brother and sister team Andrew Keller and Karissa Costello who started the food truck as an off shoot to their very popular organic deli inside Gene’s Health Food store.
“We were looking to introduce more of our community to the food we serve at Genes. So we’re super thankful for the opportunity to serve our community,” says Karissa Costello. “We have meat on the menu but its grass-fed. We have grilled cheese, it’s just without extra preservatives or dyes and flavorings.”
In fact their Smoked Brisket Grilled Cheese is one of the food items that made them stand out in the crowd of 23 trucks. “We’ve also seen more brides interested in having food trucks at their weddings lately, it’s a great opportunity to bring fun to their event in an area of weddings that doesn’t always have a lot of personality,” Costello says.
The food truck will be serving at ROMP music festival. “Everybody likes the Brisket Grilled Cheese so we’ll likely have that every day but we’ll have the Smoked Salmon Tacos too. They sell out nearly every day we serve those, so I’d check the menu daily because they go really quickly,” says Andrew.
