After doing some inventory, Owensboro Christian Church Library decided to have a book fair to make room on their shelves for new material. By the time the librarians finished removing all duplicate materials and older versions of books that have newer editions, they came up with a surplus of 3,000 items that are yours for the taking this weekend.
The books are free, but donations are accepted and will be used to buy more materials and a new computer system to make checkout easier for patrons.
Librarian Betty Evans said the book fair is a great way to grab some stocking stuffers or stock up on your home library for the cold winter days ahead. “There are thousands of books, studies, music and movies to be had. We need the space so bring some boxes and grab some great materials to prevent the winter boredom blues.”
The fair is open Saturday, Nov. 14 from 1-5 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 15 from 9-12 p.m. But If you have a Christian organization or a church needing several books, call ahead and they will be glad to set up a time for you to come prior to the open times.
Owensboro Christian Church Library is a community library (meaning you do not have to be a member of Owensboro Christian to use the library) that has been around for twenty years. In addition to books, the library also has small group materials, movies, music CD’s, audio books and games. Items can be checked out for a two week period.
You can even stop and have a cup of coffee, apple cider, or hot chocolate for free.
The Owensboro Christian Church Library is located at 2818 New Hartford Road (inside the former Lincoln Mall building). Enter through entrance D.
Normal library hours are 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Sunday evenings when church activities are going on.
