Owensboro Health will welcome back a familiar face, with nationally renowned chef Curtis Aikens Sr. presenting on the topic of diabetes and nutrition.
Aikens, known for his appearances on Food Network, is a diabetic himself and said he hopes to share his own experiences to help others.
“When I talk about this issue, I’m talking from firsthand experience. I’m the person who lost nearly 200 pounds, had heart attacks and had eye problems,” Aikens said. “When I share this from my heart, I want people to know they can do this. This is very near and dear to my heart. We don’t have to die because we have diabetes.”
Aikens added that he wants people to know that not only can they manage their diabetes, but they can live healthy, happy lives and still enjoy delicious, mouth-watering food.
“I’m looking forward to coming back, seeing some friends I made last year, and sharing my message about living with diabetes and enjoying life,” Aikens said. “I get so excited about the idea of not only sharing my story, but also the way I cook. These are recipes I prepare at home.”
Curtis Aikens Sr.’s event will take place at 5 p.m. on May 5 in Café Meeting Room A at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
