Daviess County High School is hosting a free college information session on Wednesday, Aug. 31, for members of the Class of 2017 and their families. The DCHS FFA is preparing a free meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies, and soft drinks, which will be served from 5 to 6 p.m. in the school cafeteria, followed by a “County to College” program at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
The program will feature information about applying to college, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), scholarships, submitting transcripts and preparing for the ACT assessment.
Representatives from Owensboro Community and Technical College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Brescia University, Western Kentucky University / Owensboro Campus, the U.S. Army, U.S. Marines and the National Guard will also be on hand to provide information about their programs and to answer questions about opportunities available to students after high school.
Those in attendance will also be eligible for door prizes. Drawings will be held for a $1,000 scholarship donated by the DCHS Panther Foundation, a $200 scholarship donated by the DCHS PAWS organization, a dorm-size refrigerator and DCHS spirit items.
The event is sponsored by the DCHS Guidance Department, Youth Service Center, PAWS organization, and DCHS Panther Foundation.
“We are excited to celebrate the beginning of senior year with the Class of 2017 and their families, but it is also important to realize how quickly this year will go by,” said DCHS guidance counselor Cassie Campbell. “This event is part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students to succeed beyond graduation. We are looking forward to providing important information and resources to help students and families with the college application and financial aid process.”
All DCHS seniors and their families are invited to attend.
