Owensboro Special Olympics swimmer Chris Willis improved by almost six seconds over his preliminary time in the 50-meter backstroke, but it was just short of being good enough for a medal in his first event finals at the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
Willis finished in a time of 1:29.35 Wednesday afternoon at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center at the University of Southern California, to take 4th place. He finished just three seconds behind Bronze Medalist Phillip Garcia of Bakersfield, Calif. Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Alghamdi won Gold in a time of 1:11.47. Willis swam 1:35.25 in the preliminary for the event yesterday.
Willis will swim the 50-meter freestyle final today, in which he placed second in the preliminary heat with a time of :45.68.
