The annual Bridge Day event giving citizens the opportunity to walk, stroll, or bike the Blue Bridge downtown over the Ohio River is returning on Saturday, October 1, 2016.
The once-a-year opportunity to enjoy the views of the downtown riverfront from the Blue Bridge will again coincide with the annual Owensboro Air Show.
Hilliard Lyons Bridge Run
The Blue Bridge will be closing at 7am on October 1 for the start of the annual Bridge Run. Beginning this year, the Bridge Run takes on a new format as a one-way 10-mile run. With the plethora of 5K races around the community throughout the year, run organizers wanted an opportunity for runners to enjoy a longer distance run.
Race organizers have created a one-way 10-mile run that will begin at the Reo Drive-In Theater in Indiana and finish along Veterans Blvd. in downtown Owensboro. Runners can park in downtown Owensboro and board busses in front of the Hampton Inn and Suites downtown which will take them to the start line in Reo.
Advanced registration is available for just $20 for a limited time for this unique opportunity to run a 10-mile run on a closed course along Hwy 161.
Walk the Bridge
At the conclusion of the run at approximately 9am., the bridge will open to pedestrians to enjoy until the start of the Owensboro Air Show at 1pm.
The Blue Bridge will be closed Saturday, October 1 from 7am – 1pm for the annual Hilliard Lyons Bridge Run and Bridge Day events.
