Dan Crume has been named athletic director at Apollo High School and will assume responsibilities of overseeing all aspects of the high school’s athletic program on July 1. AHS offers a variety of sports opportunities for student-athletes, including cross country, football, golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, bowling, swimming, wrestling, baseball, softball, tennis and track.

Crume has coached at multiple levels for 28 years, including serving as head coach of the AHS football program since 2012. He is currently a social studies teacher at AHS, where he is also a member of the Title IX Committee.

Crume served as defensive coordinator for the Kentucky Wesleyan College football program from 2010 to 2012. He was an assistant football coach at Owensboro Catholic High School and the assistant coach for the Kentucky West All-Star Team in 2009. Crume was the head coach of the football program at Ohio County High School from 2002 to 2008; defensive coordinator for the Daviess County High School football program from 1996 to 2002; and served as chairman of the Football Feasibility Committee for Spencer County High School (Taylorsville) in 1996. Additional coaching experience includes serving as defensive and special teams coordinator and freshman boys’ basketball coach at Hancock County High School (1993-95); paraprofessional assistant football coach at Warren Central High School (1992); and coaching at the Owensboro-Daviess County Youth Football League (2008).

Crume has participated in numerous workshops and clinics, including the Frank Glazier Coaching Clinic and football clinics at the University of Alabama, Wofford College and the University of Georgia. He has served as a speaker at the Tri-State Football Clinic in Evansville (2011) and the Kentucky Football Coaches’ Association Clinic (2007). He is a member of the Kentucky Football Coaches’ Association and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.

“I truly appreciate the opportunity that Apollo High School and the administration has bestowed upon me,” Crume said. “It is an honor to be entrusted with leading the Apollo athletic program. I have been fortunate to have had a wide variety of experiences in multiple school districts. Apollo High School has a rich athletic tradition and I look forward to serving all of the Eagle Nation, its wonderful coaches, staff and student-athletes.”

AHS Principal Rick Lasley said, “We are excited that Dan Crume has accepted the athletic director position here at Apollo High School. Coach Crume brings a wealth of experience and a dedication to meet the needs of our student-athletes and our programs. We have a lot of future athletic projects that will require attention to detail, planning and rallying our Eagle stakeholders to support the cause. We look forward to working with Coach Crume.”
