After recent concerns of asbestos in multiple makeup products, Claire’s has officially issued a recall. The original concern was made by a Rhode Island family when they found the cancer-causing substance in their 6-year-old daughter’s makeup. The girl’s mother mailed the makeup to a lab, which confirmed the presence of asbestos. The Rhode Island TV station WJAR-TV contacted the company about the finding.
Claire’s issued the following statement:
“At Claire’s the safety of our customers is of paramount importance, and we are passionate about the safety and integrity of our products. We work closely with our vendors to ensure our products are tested and assessed in line with the relevant country regulations and guidelines.
As a result of today’s inquiry from WJAR-TV, we have taken the precautionary measure of pulling the items in question from sale, and will be conducting an immediate investigation into the alleged issues. Once we have more information and have the results of the investigation we will take the necessary action.”
Owensboro Living called the local Claire’s location in Towne Square Mall and they have pulled all affected products from their shelves. There is no answer if local products have tested positive for asbestos. Please contact the store if you are concerned about items you purchased.
