The Tire Mart store located at 624 East 3rd Street in Owensboro was damaged by an overnight fire. Owensboro Firefighters and Yellow Ambulance were dispatched to the scene at 11:39 p.m.. Upon arrival a portion of the building was well involved and the fire began to spread fast.
There were several small explosions heard as the Owensboro Fire Department fought the fire from the north and west sides of the building. As more units responded they covered the east and south sides as well as protection for structures located near the fire.
The firefighters had to deal with the snow and plummeting temperatures. The wind chill hit -6F and power had to be shut down in the area which affected 60 customers. Firefighters were still on the scene at 8:30 a.m.. The fire is currently under investigation.
Locally owned Tire Mart has served Owensboro since 1943.
