Friday After 5 began in 1996 with four concerts and grew into a 16-week signature riverfront festival for the entire tri-state area, hosting more than 70,000 visitors each season. 2018 marks the 22nd season of the downtown concert series festival, and this year’s theme, “We Are Family,” is sure to celebrate the Owensboro community.
To kick off season opener, Friday After 5 will have the GRADSA StarSquad Dance Team at 6:20 p.m. with special assistant emcee Jeff Rhinerson from Puzzle Pieces. VGroove, a 70’s and 80’s show band, will take the Jagoe Homes patio stage on the BB&T Plaza at the RiverPark Center from 6:30 – 10 p.m. Andy Brasher will play an acoustic set from 7 – 10 p.m. in the Atmos Energy Courtyard. Quiet Hollers, an indie/Americana band, will rock the Legendary Party at the Pier at the Convention Center from 8 – 11:30 p.m. You will also find dancers from Owensboro Dance Theater and Johnson’s Dance Studio at the AT&T “Your Thing” Overlook Stage, followed by the Dr. Moody Band from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
A non-profit block party will take over the Kroger street fair. Princess Poppi, courtesy of TD’s Tuff Decisions, will be walking around and children are sure to enjoy free balloon animals and popcorn. Festival goers can have fun with the free Friday After 5 Foto Booth and the US Bank Home Mortgage t-shirt cannon will be shooting special t-shirts into the crowd!
