For the forty-second consecutive year, First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Owensboro has invited the Owensboro Symphony Chamber Orchestra to be a part of its morning worship service on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 9:00 a.m.. The service will take place in the sanctuary of First Christian Church at 700 J.R. Miller Blvd.

“First Christian Church is pleased to partner with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra to continue our long-standing Symphony Sunday tradition. We welcome the community to join us for this beautiful Christmas worship experience,” said Chris Michael, Senior Minister of First Christian Church.

The service will open with Handel’s Sinfonia from Messiah  followed by congregational singing and scripture reading. The First Christian Church Choir under the direction of Mike Tichenor and the Third Baptist Church Choir under the direction of David Roberson will join the Symphony’s conductor Troy Quinn and the chamber orchestra in a presentation of two pieces – Infant Holy, Infant Lowly and What Child Is This arranged by Mac Wilberg. In addition to other hymns, the chamber orchestra will also perform the Sibelius Andante Festivo, Pifa from Handel’s Messiah and conclude the morning worship service with Haydn’s Concerto for Trumpet, featuring the Owensboro Symphony’s principal trumpet, Larry Powell.

“This continual collaboration has played a significant role in our community’s Christmas celebration over these past thirty-nine years,” said Dan Griffith, CEO of the Owensboro Symphony. ” We look forward to this very special service each year.”

The doors to the Sanctuary will open thirty minutes prior to the service and the public is invited to attend.
