City of Owensboro Director of Parks & Recreation Amanda Rogers took the oath of office as Kentucky Recreation and Park Society (KRPS) President Wednesday, February 28 at the society’s annual conference and trade show in Louisville.
Kentucky Recreation and Park Society is a professional organization formed in 1953 to further the growth and development of recreation and parks services within the Commonwealth. KRPS is a state affiliate of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The society’s membership is composed of nearly 800: municipal government professionals, therapeutic recreation professionals, commercial suppliers, educators, architects, consultants and students in related fields of study.
Rogers leads a board of dedicated professionals from throughout Kentucky who are passionate about advocating for the value of the service and profession to all citizens in the Commonwealth. She was elected to serve in the position at the association’s conference in November 2016. Since her election in she has served as President-Elect.
She is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) by the NRPA and has more than 16 years of service to the Owensboro community and six years of involvement with KRPS.
About the appointment, Rogers said, “I am honored to lead a group who makes a difference to the quality of life of our citizens and the economy of our Commonwealth. To know our membership has that level of confidence in my leadership and vision for our society is humbling. I am pleased to represent the City of Owensboro in this role and am excited about the year to come!”
Her first task for the society is leading the members in a legislative luncheon March 21 in Frankfort where she and other members will be advocating and discussing proposed legislation relevant to the quality of life for our citizens in the Commonwealth. In addition in her year of service as President she has significant goals to achieve: to develop a comprehensive marketing plan and to work with Pat Hoagland and the team at Brandstetter Carroll Inc. to create a strategic, long-range plan for the society.
