Macedonia Baptist Church will host their annual Quilt and Craft Show this weekend. The proceeds from the event will be used to buy material and supplies to make quilts which they will donate to The Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY.
Eleven years ago, Susan Chapman, a Macedonia Baptist Church member, received a letter describing The Center for Courageous Kids. The center is a non-profit Medical Camping Facility. It’s a place where children living with life threatening illnesses and their families can have fun for free.
The 168 acre facility includes an on-site medical center with helipad, indoor aquatic complex, equestrian riding arena, bowling alley, gymnasium, climbing wall, boating and fishing, theater, four camper lodges, and more. Since opening, the camp has welcomed over 20,000 campers and their families.
The Center for Courageous Kids prefers to use quilts on the camp beds to make it feel homier and less like a medical camp. The need for quilts brought the Macedonia Baptist Quilters together. At first, a small group of women from the church began to meet on every Tuesday to make quilts.
Eleven years later, there are now 15 to 20 women who meet each Tuesday to work on quilts. The Macedonia Baptist Church Quilters were able to donate 25 quilts last May.
The quilters have also previously donated to various children’s organizations in Owensboro, including Puzzle Pieces.
Macedonia Baptist Church’s Quilt and Craft show will take place from 9am to 4pm on Friday, November 6th and from 9am to 12pm on Saturday, November 7th. The church is located at 4839 Millers Mill Rd, Owensboro, KY 42303.
There is no admission charge, but donations are accepted and appreciated.
