For years the Owensboro Invitational Basketball Tournament has served as one of the premiere places to play basketball over the Christmas Holiday season. That tradition will continue this year. The tournament, sponsored by the Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union, will take place on Dec. 21-23.
Last year, the OIT served as a huge economic booster for Owensboro, filling up hotel rooms and restaurants. With all four local teams playing in the tournament on the boys and girls side, tournament officials say this year’s OIT will be better than ever.
“Any time we can keep our local student athletes home over the holidays is a huge win for all four local schools. That also means teams traveling to Owensboro will spend money in our city instead of our families having to spend money outside of Owensboro,” said Todd Harper, tournament director.
“I truly believe this year’s field brings in some of the best teams in the State and offers some excellent competition for local squads,” said Andy Groves, Owensboro Girls Basketball Coach.
The tournament will be held at all local area high schools with the championship being played at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Each team is guaranteed to play at least three games.
One-day tickets that cover all games that day can be purchased for $5 at the game venues.
