Artists from Kentucky and surrounding states will compete for more than $3,500 in Purchase and Merit Awards at the Owensboro Art Guild’s Annual Juried Exhibition, scheduled at the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art, February 25 to April 14.

An opening reception, sponsored by BB&andT, is scheduled at the museum, Saturday, February 25, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., where awards will be presented.

More than 100 entries in the exhibition are expected, which will be juried by Meena Khalili, Assistant Professor of Visual Communication at the University of Louisville. The educator and illustrator holds a BFA in Illustration and an MFA in Design from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts. Her studio practices focus on design, illustration and book art. She has also studied at the Illustration Academy and at the Lorenzo de Medici School of Art, and has conducted many seminars and
workshops across the country.

In addition to jurying the entries, Khalili will also select Merit Awards and a pool of works to be considered for Purchase Awards by a group of local sponsors.

The Owensboro Art Guild is Kentucky’s oldest continuing visual arts organization operated by artists which sponsors a variety of exhibition opportunities throughout the year. In addition to the annual juried exhibition, open exhibitions, wherein all entries are displayed, are also organized by the guild. Monthly meetings featuring a wide variety of visual arts topics are held in the Ralph Center on Kentucky Wesleyan College’s campus.

The exhibition will be open during regular museum hours: Tuesday through Friday, 12 to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m.

Admission to the museum is FREE although voluntary donations are suggested of $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children under 12. Access for physically challenged individuals is provided at the Atrium entrance in the 9th Street parking lot.

For more information, phone (270) 685-3181, or visit the museum’s website, omfa.us or follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
