Kentucky Wesleyan College along with Foundation for Daviess County Public Schools and Owensboro Public Schools are pleased to announce “DCPS Day at Kentucky Wesleyan” on January 21, 2017, and “OPS Day at Kentucky Wesleyan” on January 28, 2017.
DCPS Day – Jan 21
During DCPS Day, all DCPS students will receive free admission to Wesleyan men’s and women’s basketball games. (Daviess County and Apollo students must present their school ID. 8th grade and under students will be admitted free of charge to both events.)
The women’s match against Alderson-Broaddus begins at 1 p.m., and men’s will follow at 3:15 p.m. as part of the G-MAC basketball doubleheader. Both games will be played at the SportsCenter, 1215 Hickman Avenue, Owensboro, Kentucky.
“We are pleased to be able to partner with Kentucky Wesleyan to offer another collegiate experience for our K-12 students,” said Amanda Jerome, College and Career Readiness Coordinator for DCPS. “It’s vitally important for students to see all aspects of a college campus, including extra-curricular activities.”
Kentucky Wesleyan will highlight DCPS activities during media timeouts.
“The Foundation sponsors a myriad of college and career readiness activities. Kentucky Wesleyan College participates in the Foundation’s Kids-on-Campus program and hosts the ONB Scholars Class of 2018 and the SFG Scholars Class of 2020 on campus each spring,” said Vicki Quisenberry, Executive Director of the Foundation for DCPS. “We are grateful to be a part of another initiative to build excitement for college life and truly appreciate (Associate Athletic Director) Brad Moore’s enthusiasm for encouraging connections through KWC athletics with students of all ages.”
OPS Day – Jan 28
During OPS Day, all OPS students will receive free admission to the games. OPS employees will also receive free admission to the game if they show their employee ID.
Game time is at 1:00 pm for the women’s match and men at 3:15 pm both against Trevecca Nazarene University. Both games will be played at the Sports Center, 1215 Hickman Avenue, Owensboro, Kentucky.
Members of the Owensboro High School Chorus program will perform the national anthem before the men’s game, and OHS cheerleaders will cheer both games.
“We are thrilled to partner with KWC to offer an opportunity where our students will get exposure to not only a college athletic event but an overall collegiate experience,” said Dr. Nick Brake, OPS superintendent.
There will be several announcements during both games highlighting the Owensboro Public Schools and all of the programs OPS offers. At halftime of both games, several students will be recognized for various achievements.
KWC will have an Admissions booth available before, during and after the games and encourages all students and parents to stop by to find out about educational and campus offerings at the college.
Kentucky Wesleyan College “is thrilled” to sponsor these events and partner with OPS and DCPS. “We welcome this opportunity to showcase our phenomenal academic programs and extra-curricular activities to our area schools and community. I hope everyone will visit our admissions booth and take a moment to learn about all the great things going on at Wesleyan,” said Jeremy Pittman, Vice President of Admissions.
