Aaron Kizer may not be doing any live performances in Owensboro this year, but that doesn’t mean he’s slowing down. Kizer recently dropped by the OwensboroLiving office on his way to appearances in Louisville, then Chicago, then Atlanta. And that was after waking up early to do four paintings at his home studio before leaving town. But here in Owensboro, Kizer is taking a slightly different direction to focus on promoting other artists and events in 2015.
Kizer Arts’ next event is a standup comedy show featuring comedian Kirk Fox on Saturday, February 20th at the Owensboro Convention Center. “This will be a cool event for Owensboro,” Kizer said. “We’re hoping to set the stage in the lobby area and use the front glass (of the Convention Center) as a really cool backdrop.”
Kirk Fox has had three Comedy Central specials, appeared in the TV series Parks and Recreation and several movies including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Patriot, and Wyatt Earp. Fox will be performing a 45-minute live standup comedy routine. Owensboro native Layson Brooks Jr. will be the opening act and emcee.
Kizer says he got the idea to do a comedy show because there wasn’t anything like it in Owensboro. “But what I’m hoping to do is use this event as a model for future Kizer Arts events. We’d like to have at least two comedy shows a year, but we might do other events also,” Aaron said. This new direction for Kizer Arts is part of a future plan. “Speed painting is how I got started,” Kizer said, “but I’d like to see it become more than that. I want to promote other artists more than just myself.”
The show will be Saturday, February 20th. Doors open at 7:30 P.M. Tickets are available at www.Kizerarts.com.
