Programs at the Daviess County Public Library
Daviess County was created in 1815. In celebration of the county’s Bicentennial the Daviess County Public Library is sponsoring the following programs:
The Civil War in Daviess County
Saturday, June 20th at 1 pm
The following will give talks: Aloma Dew (“Women During the Civil War in Owensboro: One Town’s Experience”); Isaac Settle (Research for Black Civil War Soldiers Historical Marker); Robert Brooks & Alan Bivens, Union & Confederate re-enactors, will provide a display & speak on Civil War events in Daviess County; and Leslie McCarty (Kentucky Room Sources on the Civil War). Books and sources on the Civil War will be displayed.
Daviess County Memorabilia Day
Saturday, July 11th from 1-5 pm
Individuals and organizations will display or sell items related to Daviess County.
Various organizations and individuals that have items that reflect the history and culture of Daviess County have been invited to come and display them on Saturday, July 11 (1-5 pm). A wide variety of items will be on display and also offered for sale. Items include art work, pictures, post cards, pamphlets, books, posters, signs, souvenirs, bottles, tokens, toys, products made locally and a multitude of other vintage collectibles. In the parking lot will be an Owensboro Wagon, 1925 Ames auto, 1956 Owensboro police cruiser and 1926 Seagrave fire engine. Both floors of the library will be a treasure trove of items to view and purchase. In the public lounge on the second floor there will be an Art Gallery and in the Kentucky Room on the first floor a Daviess County Book Store. We are really excited about this program and think it could be an entertaining way to learn about, experience and celebrate the history of Daviess County. Please come and help us to celebrate!

The following will give talks: Prof. Lee Dew (Daviess County railroads), Shelia Heflin (W.P.A. & Daviess County), Judge Joe Castlen (Daviess County Circuit Judges) and Dale Warren (early survey maps of Daviess County).
Genealogy Workshop:
Sources at the KY Dept. of Libraries & Archives & Daviess County Courthouse
Saturday, September 5th from 1 pm
Trace Kirkwood, local Records Regional Administrator with the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives, will give an overview on what resources are available for family research at the Kentucky State Archives, in Frankfort, and at the Daviess County Courthouse.
