Is Owensboro Getting More Fit?

January is typically a busy month for health and fitness facilities because of New Year’s resolutions and fresh starts after the Holidays. But this January was WAY busy for Edge Fit, which opened January first and gained over 1,000 members in its first month.

Looking back, Januarys have always been good for Edge. “I think back to three January’s ago when we were just starting our boot camps at Atlantis,” said owner Dustin Edge. “Then last year we moved into our own building and it (Edge Body Boot Camp) really started growing. Now this January we started Edge Fit.”

The original opening was slated for October, but like most renovation projects, the deadline was pushed back several times. Maybe the grand opening being pushed back to January was actually a good thing for Edge Fit.

Maybe the influx of new members at the grand opening shows how hungry people in Owensboro really are for health and fitness programs like Edge Fit.

Or maybe it’s just the hydro beds. (Ask any member – they’ll tell you all about it.)

Either way, it appears that many Owensboroans are taking health and fitness serious these days, with other new facilities like LiveWell (Midtown Plaza), Owensboro Crossfit (Industrial Drive), and Bare Bones Gym (in the former Studio Slant building on 2nd Street) popping up all over town to join the ranks of longstanding facilities like the Family YMCA, Atlantis, and the Healthpark – which are all staying plenty busy as well.

Combine that with the growing trend of eating organic, whole foods and it seems many people are making healthier changes in lifestyle and diet.

What I’ve noticed is all the places just mentioned will tell you in similar terms that better nutrition and more exercise are the two keys to better overall health.

If your doctor, your conscience, or your expanding waist line are reminding you it’s time to get into better shape, there’s plenty of quality options in this town to help you get on the path to better health and wellness right now.

Maybe today is “one of these days” for you. If that’s the case, maybe it’s time to stop making excuses and start making results. That hydro bed just might be the motivation you’re looking for. But whichever facility or program you choose, there are more than enough qualified trainers in Owensboro ready and willing to help you.

All it takes is that first step.
