With Halloween Saturday, this is a busy week in Owensboro. Here is a list of activities that have come to our attention at Owensboro Living.  (Many other churches and schools are hosting events this week as well, so feel free to share more events in the comment section below.)

Monday Night – “Pirate and Princess Party” – Daviess County High School Cafeteria
The Theater Society at Daviess County High School is hosting a Pirate and Princess Party from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, in the school cafeteria. Those attending are asked to enter through the back of the school using the Southeastern Parkway entrance by the football and softball fields.

Children are invited to wear costumes and have their photos taken with Pirates and Princesses – members of the Theater Society. Other activities include games, treats and story time. Admission is free but donations will be accepted.

For more information, contact DCHS drama director Karen Feldhaus at 270-852-7300 or by email at [email protected]

Tuesday & Wednesday – “Goofy Gourds” – Daviess County Public Library
Visit DCPL’s “pumpkin patch” from 4-7pm to decorate a pumpkin to take home! All supplies and pumpkins will be provided for the big harvest celebration! Pumpkins will be available as supplies last.  Ages 12 and younger.

Thursday – “Trail of Treats” – Downtown Owensboro
The City of Owensboro will be hosting their 26th annual Trail of Treats on Thursday, October 29th from 5:30-8:00pm. With the move downtown, Trail of Treats continues to grow with over 60 local businesses and organizations participating in this year’s event. Children and families will be able to trick-or-treat downtown while enjoying music and meet and greets from some of their favorite movie characters including: Minions, Anna and Elsa from Frozen, and Star Wars.

2nd Street and Veterans Blvd from Daviess Street to Frederica will be closed from 2:00pm until approximately 9:00pm for the event.

Friday Night – “Spooktacular Skate” – Edge Ice Center
Come dressed in your Halloween costume and skate to some of your favorite Halloween tunes. There will be games, prizes and giveaways throughout the evening. Bring your family and friends and have a spooktacular time on the ice. Admission is $6 per person and includes skate rental.

Saturday Morning – “Boo Run Run” – Daviess County Middle School
Daviess County Middle School is hosting its second annual Boo Run Run — a costume-themed 3K and 5K walk/run race scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31.

Registration fee the morning of the race is $5 per person (age 6 and older) with sign-ups starting at 7 a.m. race day. Infants and toddlers in strollers are also welcome at this fun family event.

Both courses begin and end on the DCMS campus; 3K stays on the campus for the entire route. Start times are 9:30 a.m. (5K) and 9:35 a.m. (3K). The goal is to promote healthy living and exercise for faculty, staff, students, friends and family of DCMS and DCPS; while raising money to create and sustain healthy environments for students.

The day will also include inflatables, games and healthy snacks for all participants from 8 to 10 a.m., with T-shirts available for $15 on race day. As an added element of fun, participants are encouraged to walk or run in their Halloween costumes. Costumes are optional.

For more information, contact Alese Ferrell at DCMS, (270) 852-7600 or by email at [email protected]

Saturday – “Halloweenie Roast” – WalMart  (Frederica)
After several years off, WalMart is bringing their Halloweenie Roast back this Saturday at the Frederica location (5031 Frederica St) from 3pm to 6pm. There will be all kinds of activities, including face painting, games, giveaways and, of course, Halloween candy!  Plus FREE hotdogs, chips & drinks.
