This time of year, it seems there’s a 5K every weekend in Owensboro. But Northwest Kentucky Fellowship of Christian Athletes has partnered with Reid’s Orchard to present a very unique 5K on Saturday, June 13th.
There’s no “pounding the pavement” at this 5K! The 3.1 mile mixed-trail course starts down a gravel lane, edges a newly-planted field, enters into the Yellow Creek Park trail system for a one mile loop through the woods, then finishes up with a half-mile jaunt through the peach orchard. “We think we’ve come up with a course that both new and experienced runners will really enjoy,” says NWKyFCA Director Shawn Tomes. “Plus, Reid’s is such a beautiful setting for a trail run, and the staff at Reid’s has been exceptional to work with. We couldn’t think of a better place to hold this event.”
The purpose of the first Annual Reid’s FCA run is twofold: to offer a family-friendly event and to raise money for camper scholarships which will be used by area students attending FCA leadership camp this summer.
Tomes says families can participate in the run/walk together, or kids can enjoy the Reidland Play Area during the race while their parents participate.
Registration is scheduled from 7:00-7:45am. Announcements, logistics, and opening prayer is at 7:45 and the race begins at 8am. Parking and registration areas will be clearly marked.
Early registration is $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for students. Walk-up registration is also available the day of for $25.00. A Dri-Fit T-shirt is included in the race fee.
Reid’s Orchard is located at 4818 KY 144, just off the US 60 Wendell Ford Expressway.
