Creative Uses for Gabe’s Tower

I have a buddy that lives close to Gabe’s Tower, so I keep weekly tabs on the progress that’s not being made there. Sounds like some residents want it torn down. Rightfully so. But just for fun, let’s talk about some creative uses for what used to be one of Owensboro’s most iconic buildings.

It would be fun to watch it implode, but we already had that with the Big E. Maybe it would be best to hand it over to OPD or the Fire Department for training. It would take every firefighter in town and every ladder truck from here to Evansville to control that fire.

Maybe they should paint the whole thing sky blue and we could just pretend it’s not there anymore. Or weld all the windows shut, fill it up, and use it as a water tower for the new Triplett Twist development. (But then again, would anyone really want to drink water out of there?)

Or the opposite; knock the few remaining windows out and use it as a giant bird house. Maybe eagles would come live there. But apparently, that neighborhood already has a bird problem because they shoot flares to scare them away.

One of my friends suggested turning it into an urban paintball arena. That would be cool. Or the tri-state’s largest haunted house! Oh man, you’d feel like you were never getting out of there.

Wouldn’t it be way more cost-effective to just renovate the elevator instead of the whole building? Then an adrenaline experience company could use just the very top for rappelling or base jumping. Or a zip line all the way to Burger King. How fun would that be?
