A winter storm warning is in effect for Owensboro from 6:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21 through midnight Friday evening. Freezing rain and sleet will change over to snow. Snowfall totals are expected to range from four to eight inches. Local higher amounts are possible. Sleet or freezing rain may fall prior to the snow. Travel will be impacted. If travel is necessary, please allow extra time during your commute and use extreme caution and attention while traveling. In addition, remember to bring pets inside during this cold and hazardous weather.
City Street Department maintenance crews are already applying brine, a chemical solution that helps melt snow, to pretreat the roads. Crews will be ready to dispatch equipment to keep snow routes drivable as snow accumulates. The City of Owensboro asks that citizens avoid parking on streets. By not parking on designated priority routes, you are ensuring that street crews may properly clear roads and that emergency vehicles have access to roadways.
The city’s focus will remain on priority one and two routes until the snow diminishes, these routes are cleared, and assets are freed up.
