Brescia University has announced Mike Gray will assume the role of head women’s basketball coach for the 2016-2017 season. Gray previously spent five years as the Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball program before making the transition to the Women’s Basketball program as Assistant Coach in 2014.
Gray is a 1997 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College where he played basketball under Coach Wayne Boultinghouse and Assistant Coach Ray Harper. As part of the team from 1990-1993, he was part of two Great Lake Conference Championships, NCAA Division II.
During his time as a player, he was nominated to the Kentucky European All-State Team. Gray received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education before moving on to receive a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies from Newburgh Theological Seminary.
“I want to thank my family for all the sacrifices they have made and for supporting me throughout my basketball journey,” stated Gray. “I also want to thank Brescia University for giving me a dream opportunity to become a Head Basketball Coach, and my fellow Head Coaches who allowed me to sit as an assistant to help develop these student-athletes.”
Gray is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and was part of the coaching staff at Brescia University that lead the Men’s Basketball team to a Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Tournament Championship where they claimed the title of runner-up for the 2011-2012 season and helped lead the 2015-2016 Women’s team to the KIAC Conference Tournament semi-final.
Gray currently resides in Owensboro, KY and is married to his wife, Sherry.
