Today at Apollo High School students got to witness a mock crash scene, complete with wrecked vehicles and crash dummies. Student volunteers also helped represent victims in the crash. Upon arrival to the scene students were witness to first responders doing what they do best which included the use of the “jaws of life” and a medical evacuation helicopter that transported a victim to the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. While there, students witnessed what it might be like inside an active emergency room.
Jason Stiles with Owensboro Health said, “A lot of the preplanning activities started months ago, we sent consent forms to parents, located cars that were wrecked, worked with the City Police, Fire, EMS, and Air Medical Services.” Stiles went on to say that even though it was a lot of work, if they can influence one person to make better choices, then all the work was worth it.
