Update: Unfortunately, due to the unprecedented destruction and need for immediate relief efforts from recent hurricanes in the U.S. and Caribbean, the USCG aircraft, KY ANG C-130, and Army Reserve H-60 Blackhawk will not be able to participate in the air show this weekend.
The 2017 Owensboro Air Show will return to Owensboro on September 22 – 24, 2017.
“We are really excited to build on the success of the Air Show as a growing attraction for visitors from around the United States with another great show in 2017. I am thrilled to have both the Air Force F-16 Viper Demonstration Team and the Navy F-18 Hornet Demonstration Team in town for the show this year,” said Public Events Director, Tim Ross.
This year the Air Show will be recognizing 100 years of military aviation on the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entering WWI.
The show will feature:
- a WWI era Jenny Biplane
- modern-day F-16 and F-18 fighter jets
- the US Army Special Operations Black Daggers Parachute Demonstration Team
- the Army Aviation Heritage Sky Soldiers
- The Aeroshell Aerobatic team will also be returning to Owensboro in 2017 after a great response from the spectators last year.
The Sky Soldiers will be bringing an AH-1 Cobra and Huey helicopter to Owensboro for the first time, offering paid rides throughout the weekend as well as a demonstration of the Cobra helicopter capabilities during the Air Show each day. The general public will have the opportunity throughout the weekend to experience flights on the iconic Vietnam era helicopters.
“In previous years, we have not been able to work out the schedule to have the Sky Soldiers participate in our show, so I am excited that people of all ages will have the opportunity to get a taste of what soldiers experienced by taking off with the doors wide open in the Huey for a truly unique experience aboard the iconic helicopter,” says Tim Ross. “Spectators loved Team Aeroshell last year and we were fortunate to get on their schedule early to bring them back again this year.”
Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.
