The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and Kentucky Opera are thrilled to bring the concert version of Guiseppe Verdi’s LA TRAVIATA to the stage at RiverPark Center on Saturday, October 18th at 7:30 p.m.! The Kentucky Wesleyan Singers will perform as well.
“High Notes”, a pre-concert lecture by Dennis Jewett begins at 6:45 p.m. in the Holbrook Balcony of RiverPark Center. The lecture is free with ticket purchase.
This grand opera was originally found to be full of questionable themes, and one critic even described the characters as, “foul, hideous, and immoral.” Despite the early reviews, the American public embraced the story as one of the greatest romances in opera, and it continues to be one of the repertory’s favorite operas!
Join us as we enter the world of Violetta, a popular courtesan, as she falls in love with the naive, young Alfredo and struggles to protect him from the tarnish of her past. Will the lovers overcome their differences, or will they be parted forever by fate? Verdi’s depiction of their journey together is one of the most beloved expressions of passion in music.
