The public is invited to an opening reception for the Owensboro Art Guild on Friday, July 10 at 6:30pm in the lobby of the Owensboro Convention Center. The Owensboro Art Guild will showcase a new display featuring work from local artists.

Artists and pieces that will be showcased include:

Carol Riley

  • Foggy Morning – Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores, Alabama. One morning, after it rained most of the night, the fog covered the trails and dew was dripping off the Spanish moss; the pines fading into the fog.
  • Rough River Fog

Rex Robinson

  • International Honor represents Western Kentucky’s global connection to the world as the birthplace of American Bluegrass music. The Blue Moon of Kentucky rises over Owensboro, home of the International Bluegrass Music Museum. Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys are performing in the holler below the Monroe home place in Rosine in Ohio County, Kentucky.

John Medley

  • Localities in the city – The tracks and rails that move the sand and gravel around on 2nd Street and the public art on 2nd Street with a bird nest in the top giving the appearance of the chick’s singing to the music of the flute.

Beverly Bartlett

  • Before the Concrete is a painting of the beautiful tree that was cut down on the river front to construct the new Smothers Park. It was a beautiful old tree giving us lots of needed shade, and which attracted many artists, some from outside of Owensboro, to give us many beautiful oil and watercolor paintings of God’s creation.

Rhonda McEnroe

  • No Beret In Sight is a Paris street scene, which was discovered on my last night in this breath-taking city.
  • “Watercolors” is a watercolor painting in the traditional style; using the whites of the paper for the whites in the painting.

Mattie Jones

  • The Joy of Sisterhood – We all are sisters in Christ.
  • Left Behind – See the anguish in the faces of those on the sidelines.

Pat O’Brien

  • The U.S.C.G. Eagle is a training ship for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. It was Adolph Hitler’s personal yacht that was seized by the U.S. Navy. My father, Richard O’Brien, was the chief engineman on the Eagle for four years.
  • The picture of the horse race and dogwoods was inspired by my feeling that there is no better place to be in spring than Kentucky.
