Owensboro, Apollo and Daviess County high schools are teaming up to make an impact and support the mission of Girls Incorporated in our community.
A Powder Puff benefit football tournament is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, at OHS Rash Stadium. Girls from the participating schools will compete with flag football rules in games officiated by KHSAA licensed officials.
Admission is $2 per person or a donation of items to benefit Girls Inc. A list of suggested items that will be used for Girls Inc. summer programs is included below. Concessions will be available, including Chick-fil-A sandwiches, with a portion of proceeds also benefitting Girls Incorporated. The mission of Girls Inc. of Owensboro-Daviess County is to “inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold.”
The first annual Powder Puff game is sponsored by the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, which is designed to encourage leadership skills among students. The Leader Academy challenges students to develop an Impact Project that will make a difference in their community; this year’s students have decided to host a Powder Puff game to benefit an organization that empowers girls and young women.
OHS social studies teacher Tim Wimsatt serves as faculty sponsor for the Impact Project. “We want to involve everyone and bring Owensboro and Daviess County together for an event that will feature a positive spirit of competition with a shared goal of providing students with an opportunity to give back to our community,” he said.
Media partners are invited to help publicize this event, with a special invitation to cover the games on May 4. For more information, contact Tim Wimsatt at 270-313-6342 or [email protected] or Girls Inc. executive operations assistant Jaimie Moore at 270-684-7833 or [email protected]
