American Roots-Rock Artists, Heath & Molly, announced the release of their Holiday Roots EP, No Christmas in Kentucky, this week. To celebrate, they will incorporate a CD release party into their annual holiday concert this Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. at Towne Square Mall on the JC Penney stage.
The song “No Christmas in Kentucky” accurately and vividly portrays the plight of the Kentucky coal miner, and others less fortunate in Kentucky who struggle to endure a high dollar, high pressure, holiday call to action,” said Heath Eric. “I don’t think anyone could dislike this masterpiece by Phil Ochs.”
Molly Eric added, “The modern Christmas tradition highlights the vast divide between the rich who have, and the poor who have not. This song is a pointed reminder to abandon the attention we give to commercialism and embrace the value in spreading love and cheer to our peers and throughout our communities.”
The EP also includes a 5/4 version of “Jingle Bells,” the classic “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and the traditional hymn “The Cherry Tree Carol.”
Owensboro Living spoke with Heath Eric about the concert and release party this Saturday:
Why did you choose to have your release party at the mall?
This will be the fourth consecutive year we have done a holiday concert at the mall. It’s quickly become a tradition to do an annual concert there, FREE – for the entire family. We had the date planned and it just worked out to ‘officially’ release the EP there.
What fans can expect at the show?
It’s always a great vibe performing at the mall. Fans can expect a large group of folks of all ages enjoying the show – singing and clapping along. We do a lot of songs we don’t normally do at our concerts – songs people know. And of course, lots of holiday tunes. This year we’ll perform all songs off of the EP, and others as well. It’s a great time for the entire family. Additionally, we love doing the mall concerts because every year we see folks we have not seen for some time. It’s become an annual gathering in a sense to reconnect with old friends and make new ones.
Any treats or surprises planned specifically for this show?
We will have a special guest performing with us on this day. Our friend, Rod Austin, will join us on drums. We’ll also have great deals on CDs, shirts, and of course the new EP for only $5. No Christmas in Kentucky: A Holiday Roots EP is available exclusively as a digital download for $5. Folks can preview and easily download at: HeathAndMolly.com – on December 12, fans can purchase a download that comes in the form of the CD cover art with a special code on back.
