FCrossFit Vox will be holding an open house for the public this Saturday, March 4, 2017, at their facility located at 1316 Alsop Lane.
Coach Rick Kim says the goal of the open house is to introduce more people in Owensboro to the benefits of CrossFit. “There’s a misconception that Crossfit is only for people who are already in very good shape, and this is not the case. One of the great things about the sport is that we can scale a workout (for example, by changing weights, repetitions, or movements) for a new member who may be getting back into a fitness program after a long break.”
Highlighting the great sense of community and support that members offer each other at the gym is the other goal for the open house, which is why the day also includes free workouts at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. for anyone who wants to try CrossFit.
For families, there will be a parent and kids workout at 10 a.m. “Working out as a family is great because it not only improves their fitness, it also gives families a sense of accomplishment after completing a workout together,” Kim says. “We’re also seeing that kids who participate in CrossFit are seeing improvement in other sports they participate in, and kids who are not traditionally athletes are getting out of the house and becoming active.”
Those who plan on working out Saturday should wear athletic clothes and shoes.
There will also be several vendors at the open house, including:
- Legends – displaying and selling athletic gear and apparel
- Cecil Farms Produce – discussing their farm-fresh produce home delivery service
- Bodycounter – selling its safe, chemical-free skin care products
- FitAid Beverage Co. – donating products to participants at open house
- Rehabilitation & Performance Institute (RPI) – offering Function Movement Screening
CrossFit is constantly varied functional movements performed at relatively high intensity. All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements reflecting the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more.
