Winter Coat Drive organizers have a great problem: so many people have donated coats that they are having trouble distributing them.
“So far we’ve collected over 1,000 coats,” says Nathan Morris, with Haley McGinnis, who is co-sponsoring the coat drive with Independence Bank. “We’ve distributed 800 coats to all the local shelters and schools that we normally take them to, but we still have about 300 coats left to give out.”
So, just like they reached out to the community to donate coats, “Now we’re reaching out to see if anyone knows someone who could use a winter coat,” Morris told Owensboro Living this morning. “Somebody told us about a house fire in Calhoun, and people have mentioned other clothing closets and churches. We have coats to give, so we’re trying to reach out to everyone we can.”
Anyone who knows a family or organization in need of winter coats is asked to make a request to Wayne at 270-684-9891 or leave a comment on the Haley-McGinnis Facebook page.
The coat drive runs throughout the month of December. There are collection boxes at all Owensboro Independence Bank locations.
