The Greater Owensboro Chamber Young Professionals (CYP) are hosting a Lyft informational session on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. at the O.Z. Tyler Distillery, 10 Distillery Road. Lyft is a ridesharing service that recently was made available in Owensboro.
“Being successful in bringing a ride sharing service to Owensboro was a huge win for CYP,” said Chamber Talent Programs Manager and Leadership Owensboro Executive Director, Jessica Shely Kirk. “This was the perfect example of young professionals working together along with the overall business community to improve the quality of life in Owensboro and continue the momentum in building a community attractive to millennials.”
The goal is by the end of the session to have several drivers ready to be Lyft approved. “We are providing a one-stop shop session for those interested in becoming LYFT drivers. We will have information for prospective drivers as well as general information about LYFT and how it works,” said Andrew Howard, CYP Chair.
CYP is partnering with Bowen Tire which will offer a free vehicle inspection for any driver wanting to get their car Lyft certified. Normally the cost would be around $30. Other requirements to become a Lyft driver are a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, car registration, your car must be a model 2005 or newer and you must pass a background check. Interested drivers should also already have the Lyft driver app installed on their smartphone.
“We want people to come out and see how you can make some extra money being a Lyft driver. We have partnered with O.Z. Tyler, Greenwell Chisolm, the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and Visit Owensboro to provide this presentation and some breakfast,” added Howard.
This is an open event. It is not limited to CYP members. If you’re interested in attending, please contact CYP at [email protected] or call the chamber at (270) 926-1860.
