Friday, 1/12/2018
- Midnight-3 a.m. — All Rain
- 3 – 6 a.m. — Freezing Rain
- 6 – 9 a.m. — Sleet
- 9 a.m. – noon — All Snow
- Early evening — all precipitation stops
Expected precipitation amounts for Owensboro/Daviess County:
- Total Ice: 1/10 of an inch
- Total snowfall: 3+ inches
Greatest potential impacts:
· Flash freezing/black ice during early morning Friday commutes
· Slick roads (especially intersections, bridges, dips, overpasses, sharp curves), steps, and sidewalks
· Low temps/wind chills (from 64°F Thursday to -4°F wind chill Saturday night)
· High winds (gusts as high as 30mph Thursday through Saturday), blowing snow
· Daily thawing, followed by spotty refreezing
· Heavily loaded limbs, saturated ground, rotten trees, high winds = broken utility lines/road blockages
· Localized minor street flooding
If you must travel, especially Friday morning, leave early and drive cautiously. With temperatures dropping extremely fast overnight, there is a great chance for roads to go from perfectly fine to completely iced over in the blink of an eye.
